    The EGR pipe on D40 and R51 has been known to fatigue in the heat exchanger and on the exhaust manifold end. The fatigue cracks leak exhaust gases and coolant. The coolant leaks are internal and will give no visible evidence.  There is a gas jet between the EGR valve and the intake manifold which interferes with the air flow and restricts the intake manifold air flow rates. The EGR delete kit has a gas jet blanking plate which replaces the gas jet which improves the air flow in the intake manifold. For a D22 just use the gas jet plate.  The EGR delete kit eliminates the EGR pipe totally for a D40 and R51. With the EGR modification, D40 and R51 produces 15% more torque and the D22 produces 20% more torque from 1000rpm. Both have an improvement in fuel economy of about 5%. When the egr pipe is removed on a D40 and R51 there is clear access to the drive belts and the cam chain cover.    There will be an increase in NOX which in not visible by eye. Black smoke from stationery take off is reduced considerably.
